Camera

New Camera.

I’ve installed a new Foscam camera this weekend, its considerably better quality video and the lens is a far wider angle than the one we’ve been using for the last 12 months. The biggest issue I’ve so far come up against is the new interface which doesn’t seem to play nicely with the Loxone door controller. This one has either a java or Active-X plug-in which means it’ll never work. It does however support video feeds to VLC which I am […]

The New Macbook is here!

Yay for another new apple release. My initial thoughts were Wow that looks awesome, i’m having one! After a few days to read the reviews, and think logically about it, its not a machine i’ll be buying into. Firstly it comes in gold! a little less Pimp for me please? The idea of a single port amazes me, but in the usual Apple style, the adaptors are over priced just for a change! here’s this thing of beauty which is […]

The Mac Pro – 3 Months On….

Well i’ve had the Mac Pro almost 3 months now, and here are my thoughts. Its awesomely quick! Although its nowhere near the top of the range the model I have is probably the fastest machine I’ve ever used, startup times, running apps, everything is lighting quick. I’ve only core the 6 core Xeon CPU, but coupled with a 1Tb SSD and 32Gb of ram, its handled everything i’ve thrown at it. I’ve yet to see the CPU utilisation go […]

Thermostatic Radiator Valves – Frustration!!!!!!!

I find my install at a bit of a dead end at the moment, when we were planning the system the expectation was that Loxone would have released a Air Capable wireless TRV, so no additional power or data connection was planned when we re-cabled the house. Sadly those products haven’t yet come to fruition almost 10 months after our install (Though Loxone do support EnOcean, which is a pretty expensive option). With ADS updating our heating in the next […]

Heating

Another reason I can’t wait for my heating to be Loxone’d

We’ve had the British Gas Hive controller in the house for probably 18 months to 2 years, in that time I’ve not touched the wall mounted thermostat. Thats changed this morning, its cold we’re both in the house, and the Hive network is currently down.   All very well but since its been installed we’ve never used the wall-mount thermostat, and don’t have a clue how to turn our heating on! The biggest problem with relying on an external service […]

Feedback on the HP Stream 7

Well I took the HP Stream 7 into a couple of customers, and all were very positive about it, though none really got the chance to use it earnest though. I think most people liked the price, at £75 its a real bargain, a full windows machine with a copy of Office *1 year subscription. After actually attempting to use the device for the last week or so I have to say its biggest downfall is the screen resolution, things are […]

The joys of HDMI!

I’ve spent the last 3 or 4 hours troubleshooting an HDMI issue between my Sony amplifier and TV. With the TV in the lounge and the AV kit in the garage, with only a single HDMI cable running between them I figured I was into a world of hurt. A few days ago my wife informed me that we’d been getting a message saying the Bravia Sync connection had failed while she’d been watching TV, the error message had gone […]
