Humax HDR 1100 Freesat Recorder

Back in January we cancelled our Sky subscription and replaced the Sky receiver with a Humax 1100, after the initial excitement of getting the box, and finding out that it can be controlled with the iPads, I quickly lost interest in the unit and left my it to my wife to use. In theory the whole iPad to control the box sounds really cool, in reality its not that great a solution in our opinion. The only alternative to control […]

More Coloured LED Strip

I’ve decided I should leave the wiring on my installation to the electricians, they do a far neater and quicker job than I am capable of, saying that I did manage to install another strip of colour LED’s in my office. With the purchase of the multi-air module the other week, I had a spare DMX module available, we still have one DMX ready for when we update the bathroom, which may be some time! We currently have 50mm deep […]

Loxone Config 6.4.5.20 is here!

With a full list of changes to the config software, though I don’t think there’s much that affects either my install, or my customer’s setups, unlike the previous update 6.4.5.12 LOXONE CONFIG 6.4.5.20 Fixed Bugs: Alarm can not be used if disable-input is set (ID: 50724417) fixed crash after deleting mediaserver (ID: 50840198) deletion of Music Server Zones fixed (ID: 50220477) cut/paste with multiple Music Server Zones (ID: 50442692) crash when configuring MediaClient (ID: 50617157) error-mails for musicserver (ID: 50680726) […]

The all singing all dancing Loxone Air Touch

In a bid to try and get as many pieces of kit in the house to demonstrate the capabilities of the Loxone system, i’ve bought a few more pieces of kit, this morning i took delivery of the new Loxone Air Touch. Here’s the unboxing:   With 5 switches, a temperature sensor and a humidity sensor this bad boy was screaming to be installed in the conservatory, when I first heard about the AIR concept I wasn’t convinced, though as […]

New Heating System, New Cabinet

Well several days of setup and configuration, and we now have a mains pressurised heating system, controlled from the Loxone. The new cabinet has very little in it so far, a Multi Extension Air, 2 power Supplies and an RGBW Air module. We’ve also added a small 10 port patch panel to link the 1-wire sensors, rather than terminal blocks, as we’ve used in the past. The multi air extension was chosen as it has a good selection of inputs […]

Taking Home Automation For Granted

Over the weekend we had some friends over who are pretty into their technology, it was the first time they’d been to the house and seeing what we’ve done so far. There are times when it feels like the only thing we have to show people is a great lighting system, with some cool coloured LED’s. Its easy to forget about all the other things we have, the power monitor, presence simulation, heating control, lighting control, security system to name […]

Look Ma, No Wires!!!

A familiar knock at the door from the UPS man, and i have another box of Loxone goodies! Air products seem to be the way forward, well at least that seems to be where Loxone are developing more new products. On the one hand I feel quite disappointed, surely a system at the heart of the home should be hard wired? or should it? For the first time since embarking on this project I’ve managed to install kit without the […]

How big a cabinet should we install?

One thing we didn’t do when we planned out our installation, was allow room for expansion in the cabinets we bought. I had no appreciation of the number of terminal blocks and additional power supplies we’d be installing and the space they would require. Currently we have no space in the cabinets for any additional modules we may want to  install in the future. With the aid of my electrician, we’ve now planned a new cabinet to be wall mounted in […]

Does the perfect low power video streaming device exist?

Since we cut the cord on subscription TV (Sky), we’ve moved to streaming services. Initially it wasn’t a problem, as our Sony TV supported both services. However recently Sony discontinued support of Microsoft Silverlight on our particular model, and removed the icon! so its time to find a new device. We have both Amazon Instant Video and Netflix subscriptions. There seems to be plenty of support for Netflix, with every device we currently have  having an app, the Apple TV, […]
